Randy Payne, USPTA
Director of Adult Tennis
Randy has been a teaching professional in the Detroit area for the last 27 years, and has been at Franklin for 18 years. Randy has directed programs at Western Golf & Country, Farmington Tennis Club, Birmingham Country Club and Centaur Racquet Club. Randy graduated from Adrian College where he played #1 singles and doubles. As captain of his intercollegiate team, Randy was voted team MVP, was the recipient of the M.I.A.A. Conference Stowe Award for Sportsmanship and was elected all conference. Randy's off-court volunteer work has included serving as President of the Eastern Michigan Professional Tennis Association, Steering Committee for the Cystic Fibrosis Tennis Auction Ball and volunteer work for various grass roots tennis programs. Randy has worked with many tournament level players both adult and junior. He enjoys working with players of all levels who strive for improvement. |

Bruce Sawicki
Director of Junior Tennis
Bruce joined the Junior Tennis staff at Franklin in 2003. Bruce has over 25 years of teaching and tennis management experience. Since 1981 Bruce has been tennis pro, tennis director and eventually the owner at Grosse Ile Racquet Club. During that time he also spent 5 years as the head pro at the Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club. Many of his students have gone on to play at the collegiate level. At least 5 of them are teaching pros in and around Michigan and Arizona. Bruce enjoys working with all players from beginners to advanced levels. |
Ian Harris
Head Professional
Ian has served as the Director of Tennis at several Detroit area facilities. During that time, he has distinguished himself as one of the country's top tennis teachers. Ian's students have won over 100 national titles, including two players that were ranked top ten in the world. He has coached those players to wins over the likes of Steffi Graff and Gabriella Sabatini. As a player, Ian was ranked #1 in the Western Tennis Association in both singles and doubles and was in the ATP's top 200 in singles and top 100 in doubles. He has won tournaments on five continents and has two wins in doubles over #1 world ranked players. Ian attended Butler University where he majored in Psychology. |

Phil Norville, USPTA
Head Professional
Phil has been a teaching professional in the Detroit area for the past 34 years. He has been a staff member at Franklin for the past 28 years. Along with being one of the busiest teaching pros in the area, Phil has also been one of the best playing professionals. Over his playing career, he has been ranked #1 in the Western Tennis Association and has won numerous Michigan Open titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Phil finished the 2005 season ranked 3rd and 9th in the nation with sons Bryan and Jason. During the summer months, Phil is the Head Professional at the Franklin Hills Country Club. |
Steve Herdoiza
Head Professional
Steve comes to Franklin with a long list of accomplishments in the field of tennis. His reputation in the industry is that he can make a tennis champion out of you even if you think you have two left feet. Steve was a world ranked player and the #1 player at Northwestern University. He achieved his highest NCAA singles ranking and doubles ranking of #1 while attending college. He was a quarterfinalist in the US Pro Championship in Boston in 1995 and qualified for the Canadian and Volvo Opens. Steve defeated eight NCAA champions through much hard work and his determination to win. |

Grant Asher, USPTA
Head Professional
Grant graduated in 1992 from Michigan State University. While attending he played Number one singles and doubles all four years, he was MVP all four years and earned the All Big Ten Award. Upon graduation Grant played two years on the Professional Circuit and traveled to Europe, Mexico and all across the United States including Hawaii. After touring Grant was the Director of Tennis at the Court One Athletic Club for seven years before coming to Franklin. Grant works with adults and juniors of all playing levels and has coached two students to national championships and numerous others to college scholarships. Grants wife, Katherine O�Connor, is a Senior Attorney at Butzel Long Law Firm and they have twins, Colin and Payton. Grants best win was over Todd Martin, although Grant was taller then Todd at the time they played. |
Amy Frazier
Tennis Professional
Franklin is proud to have one of the most easily recognized names in the tennis worlds on our staff. Amy started playing tennis at Franklin Athletic Club when she was just 3 years old. She made her debut on the Pro Tour in 1987 and continued to play on the tour through the 2006 U.S. Open. Her resume includes 18 Wimbledons and 18 Australian Opens, 20 US Opens, and 15 French Opens for record setting 71 Grand slam appearances. Amy has 8 professional career titles and was a 7 time finalist. In 1995, Amy reached her highest ranking on 13th in the world. Amy has over 30 wins against top 10 players and has spend 18 consecutive years in the top 100- the longest span by any female tennis player ever. |

Scott Smith
Tennis Professional
Scott, world ranked in both singles and doubles, has been a teaching professional for over years in the Detroit area including 8 years at Franklin Athletic Club. Scott has directed programs at Bloomfield Open Hunt Club, Knollwood Country Club for 10 years. He was an experienced junior player, winning the prestigious St. Louis National clay court tournament. He was a two times NCAA All American while attending Ferris State University. |
Phil Eagleson
Tennis Professional
Phil is a product of Franklin's junior program. He played high school tennis at Detroit Catholic Central and was part of two State Championships. He then went on to play at Hampton University in Virginia where his team won two Division II Championships. After college, Phil went on to teach tennis and has been doing so for 15 years in the Detroit area. |

Ray Ashare
Tennis Professional
Ray played tennis at Cranbrook and at the University of Michigan. He has taught tennis in the Detroit area for over 20 years. Ray is currently the head Tennis Professional at Knollwood Country Club. Ray works with all ages and abilities. |
David Gennero
Tennis Professional
David has been teaching in the Detroit area since 1994. He also taught at Lochmoor Country Club and Square Lake Athletic Club. He was also the Director of Tennis at Woodside Athletic Club from 2000-2005. David is now the Head Tennis Professional at Tam O'Shanter Country Club during the summer. He played collegiate tennis at Western Michigan University where he played #1 singles. |

Mike has been teaching tennis full-time for over 15 years, and has been at Franklin Athletic Club for the last two years. Mike is an extremely versatile and capable tennis professional and enjoys working with all ages and abilities. |

Clay is a USPTA Professional I. He has been teaching in the Detroit area for over 20 years. Clay coaches the Walled Lake Central Boys and Girls tennis teams. During the summer, he is the Head Tennis Professional at Beechview Swim & Tennis. |

Mike has been teaching tennis in the Detroit area for over 10 years. Mike played collegiate tennis at Eastern Michigan University. He currently plays on our men's 5.0 team and helped them win several State Championship. |
Jean Blievernicht:
Tennis Professional
Jean is a United States Professional Tennis Association Certified Pro. She has a MS in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin. Formerly, Jean held the US National Public Parks #2 Singles and the USTA #15 girls 18 doubles rankings. Many Michigan High Schools and Colleges have had Jean as an official in tennis, field hockey, volleyball, or girls lacrosse. She has officiated the State High School Finals in volleyball and lacrosse. |

Michelle Bradford
Tennis Professional
Michelle has been teaching and coaching tennis in the Detroit area for over 25 years. She has been a former Director of the Harvey Barcus Tennis Center located in Detroit. In addition, she has been with Franklin for a total of 13 years and full-time since 2007. Michelle has worked with both adults and juniors of various levels. More than a few of her juniors including two of her children have played at the collegiate level. |
