Junior Tennis

At Franklin Athletic Club, our Tennis Professionals develop young players with skills for a lifetime. Our programming allows beginners to develop basic skills while challenging the elite player. Private lessons are also available for players who want more.

The goal of our junior program is to provide our students with the best instructional opportunities to maximize their abilities. From Ankle Biters to Tournament Excellence, our teaching staff will work to teach the students strong fundamentals in the areas of stroke production, movement, conditioning, tactics, strategy and competitive match play skills. Many students will face the decision of whether they want to pursue excellence in tennis to play at the high school level or want to dedicate additional time to compete at sectional or even national level tournaments. Our goal is simply to provide our students with the best opportunity to pursue individual excellence.

Ankle Biters Program:

Recommended Ages: 3-5 years

Our Ankle Biters Program is designed specifically for children between the ages of 3 and 6. Your children will be introduced to the court, balls and racquet. The major goal of this program is to show these new players how much fun it is to be on a tennis court. This is where we initiate hand/eye coordination development through various games and drills. Our instructors carefully build the players skills in a fun
environment.

  • Ankle Biters I: These classes are for players with either no or very little tennis experience.
  • Ankle Biters II: These classes are for players with some previous instruction. Emphasis will be on learning basic forehand and backhand groundstrokes, necessary for the successful move to the Young Stars Program.

Quick Start Tennis Program:

Quickstart Tennis is a new format to help kids ten and under learn and play the game. To make it easier for them, we’ve changed a few things. The court sizes. The racquet sizes. The balls. The scoring system. Even the net height. The changes work, too. Any child between ages five and ten can start playing tennis almost immediately. And just like other popular youth sports, quickstart stresses the importance of play and team competition, they have fun playing with their friends and develop skills that will become the foundation of their game.
